Bridal and Wedding Shopping In Mumbai

Last few months I have been trying to cover few areas of Mumbai to find out what its markets has to offer. Last week I ended up in Dadar Market and found this lane with wide array of small and big shops, all offering traditional, bridal and wedding wear for women – salwar suits, sarees, bridal lehangas etc. With the festive and wedding just about to hit us, here is a small list of places you can check out not only for your clothes, but make – up and jewellery too.

If you are confused on where to shop for bridal or wedding wear, Dadar is the place to be. It has one of the best collection of shops for wedding/ bridal wear. Probably, one of the locations which has something for every budget. The various shops provide one of the best wedding shopping experiences in Mumbai. It has a good collections of saree shops also.

I have visited most of the shop as a shoppers and here are my experiences with some of them

Paaneri (Wedding/ Bridal/ Traditional Wear)

Well its not a shop, its a mini store with 3 floors. A shop for all occasions from casual salwar suits to party wear, from designer lehngas to traditional bridal wear, from beautiful net sarees to silk ones, you name it and you get it. They have ethnic gowns too. They offer wide range of products in Fancy Hand Embroidery including Zari, Resham & Zardozi Work with colorful Kundan, Sequins & Swarovski and it is not restricted to women wear only, they have sections for men and kids wear too. They have a huge collection and their staff is well trained and very courteous. We went as fake shoppers to review the shop but ended up buying few punjabi suits. I was very impressed with the staff, the moment you enter they help to locate the vacant spot and arrange for a dedicated sales person to help you out with all your requirements.

Talking about the pinch on the pocket- they have products from all price ranges – a regular salwar suit (casual, office wear) would come in the range of Rs.1600- Rs 3000 , were as party wear salwar suits range starts from Rs.6000. Similar is the case with sarees, they have the regular wear saris costing Rs.2000-Rs.4000 and the party wear range starting from Rs.8000-Rs.9000. As for the lehangas (unfortunately I did not ask the price range) they have wide collection of wedding lehangas, but if you are not the bride don’t worry, they have the less heavier and designer ones too. They also stylish and traditional panetar sarees (Panetar sarees are saris used by Gujarati brides during wedding ceremony). Overall a great place for the festive and wedding shopping with quality product from all price ranges. I went there on saturday evening and it was packed with shoppers with lots of NRIs shopping wedding lehengas and lots of other stuff.

Selections (Wedding/ Bridal/ Traditional Wear)

Well, this shop is located right opposite Plaza cinema. It has a nice collection of wedding, traditional wear. The shop was too crowded when we went and unfortunately there was no-one to attend or greet us and we were pretty disappointed with the service with everyone asking us to go to another salesman, so we just had a look at the open collection and decided to move. The collected nice but the shop is not as big as Paaneri and the staff is not that courteous. But if you are shopping in that area, I would suggest to have a look at it, you may get a better service. Its smaller than Paaneri and has a separate store for Groom’s wear also which was under renovation when we went. But the groom’s collection did not look appealing from outside.

Aakruti (Budget Indian Wear)

Located on the same road, this shop boasts of a wide selection of salwar suits-  both stitched and unstitched and kurtis. They have a decent collection of regular wear and party wear. This is relatively less expensive than Paaneri, you can get regular wear kurtis and salwar suits starting from Rs.1100 , whereas their party wear range begins from Rs.6000.

Madalyn (Bridal/ Traditional Wear – Designer Boutique)

Its a small boutique located next to plaza cinema. They have a good collection of party wear and designer suits. Though the variety is limited, the pieces are beautiful. This one is a tad bit expensive than rest of the nearby shops. Overall a good place to shop for a party wear heavy salwar suit. It is more like a designer boutique than normal wedding stores. Do check it out once, you may find something very stylish and different from other shops.

Location :Shop 4, Anand Vaibhav CHS ltd., NC Kelkar Road, Dadar (W) Mumbai Phone : 022-24379934

Roop Sangam (Sarees / Traditional Wear)

Roop Sangam is another shop further ahead of Paaneri on right hand side from Plaza Cinema. The shop has about 3-4 floors.  Staff is courteous and the shop had a great collection of silk saris. It was thinly crowded, We didn’t spend much time in checking over-all collection, but we felt that it was more of a saree place than wedding lehengas.

Sweet Selection Nx (Accessories)

Your wedding or festive attire is incomplete without the accessories matching your clothes. Tucked between all the clothes shop is this accessory shop. You get all types/finish of  costume jewellery here. Be it diamond, gold or kundan. A perfect place to shop for earrings and necklaces. They have an amazing collection of bangles too. Moreover its not limited to jewellery, you can also get bags and cosmetics – from Maybelline, Lakme, Revlon ,MAC etc. Its a gem of a shop for all your accessory shopping. Well, owners were slightly rude to us but their collection was nice. It was on the slightly costlier side as the options on accessories shopping were limited around that place.
