Urban Decay Naked Smoky Review, Price And Swatches
There has been a mixed buzz for the newly launched Naked Smoky palette from Urban Decay among the make up enthusiasts. Personally I have been waiting for a month now to get my hands on it, maybe its the name – Smoky which attracted me most to this palette. I love smoky eye make up looks and this seems to be a perfect eye shadow palette for it.
Naked Smoky is packed with a dozen of sultry, smoky neutrals – including nine never before seen shades and three exclusives.Warm bronzes, dimensional grays, rich browns and deep blacks, the palette has it all.The shades vary from matte, satin to shimmer making it a complete package. It comes with a look guide with step by step instructions for color placement to create a four smoky eye look – the Iconic UD Smoky Eye, Smoky Reality Star, Smoky Cat, and Everyday Smoky.
High – Its a warm peach beige shade with micro glitter.
DirtySweet – Its a beautiful golden brown with a metallic sheen.
Radar – It is described as metallic taupe with iridescent micro-glitter. Its a medium bronze shade with warm yellow undertones.
Armor – Its a dark, taupe gray with a frosted, lightly sparkly finish.
Slanted – Its a muted, medium gray with cool, bluish undertones and a pearly sheen.
Dagger – Its a dark gray with satin finish.
Black Market – Its a Pure dark black with satin finish.
Smolder – Its a dark plum purple shade.
Password – Its a muted, medium-dark taupe with cool undertones and a matte finish.
Whiskey – Its a warm medium-dark brown with reddish undertones and matte finish.
Combust – Its a cool light beige shade with pink undertones and matte finish.Much similar to my skin tone
Thirteen – Its a white beige shade. The finish is almost matte.
First thing first, I love the packaging, it comes in a translucent brown case with visually striking smoky print on the cover. The Urban Decay Naked Smoky comes with a two sided brush, for blending and smudging. The quality of the brush is pretty good and you can definitely use it regularly.
The texture and formulation of the shades vary. The matte ones are a little chalky and do fallout, however the the satin and glitter ones are much better and adhere to eyelids easily. I hate the fact that so much eye shadow gets lost on the palette itself, even if you apply them with great care using a flat brush. Overall, texture wise this palette is tad bit disappointing compared with other Urban Decay palettes but pigmentation is good. The color payoff range from decent to good (Darker shades – blacks and grays have a higher payoff than the lighter beige shades)
I would highly recommend using a primer before applying this palette, it not only helps in making the eye shadows stay intact for much longer but also increases the color payoff and makes it easier to blend. Most of the shades stay for a good 7 -8 hours (with primer).
Overall, Urban Decay Naked Smoky is a good day to night palette. I wish texture of some of the shadows was a little better. The shades are all very pretty and well suited for all skin tones. A perfect mix of cool and warm eye shadows to create that perfect smoky eye look.
